We practiced with black and white smaller version of fruit. We paint the background black first and then did the object. The black and white version helps me on dividing black, grey and white that makes the object more 3D. I think this is a really good preparation for the next project, which is a bigger acrylic piece that is in color. In this piece, we have only used dry brush technic. I have never try this way before, but it feels really different from the wet brush. Because of the dry brush, it is really hard to blend the color, which give me a big challenge. However, I really like the dry brush technic. When we are using dry brush, it can show the shape of the brush touch.
When we started doing this project, we start with the background first, and then go into the object. At first, I need to identify where is the dark and where is the light part. Then we can started painting it. I went too dark on the object and my background too dark, which make my object flow in the air. The way I fix it is to add the table line and make the front part lighter and the back part darker and also highlight my object.

This Acrylic Fruit Paintings project had give me a lot of help on the defining the color.
First, we pick two complementary colors. Then we toke some pictures under the light and three borders. After that, we painted the background first which will be our fruit color. We need to divide the background three parts, which will be light medium and dark part. After we finished painting the background. We used charcoal to outline the fruit shape and identify the dark part and highlight party. Then I repaint the background color again with the blue and left the apples. When I finished the blue background, I started to paint the orange color apple. Also I mixed blue and orange to get dark brown to put on the dark part of apple and I mix white, yellow and orange for the highlight part of the apple. After I finished the apples, I went back to the background to make the color smoother. Because my two apples are on the left of the campus, so I added some wrinkle on the table part to make the right part not that empty. When I finished everything, I took the tape of and paint the black border. I have to say this project let me developed so much on my art skill that is really useful for my portfolios. |
